Doctoral Program Admissions

Students who have completed a Master program in Behavioural/Cognitive Science or related disciplines including Psychology, Neuroscience, Sciences, Engineering (e.g., Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Electrical Engineering), Linguistics, Medicine, and Philosophy are eligible to apply for admission to the Doctoral Program. Students with NET/JRF/CSIR/GATE/ICMR are encouraged to apply.
Eligibility Criteria:
A minimum score at the Post-graduate Examination of 55% marks (or the equivalent Letter Grade/Grade Point under the seven point Letter Grade Scale), laid down by the UGC in the case of General/OBC candidates; or 50% marks (or the equivalent Letter Grade/ Grade Point) in the case of SC /ST/PH/VH candidates.
A minimum average score in the entire academic career of 54% marks (or the equivalent Letter Grade/Grade Point) in the case of General/OBC candidates; or 49% marks (or the equivalent Letter Grade/Grade Point) in the case of SC/ST/PH/VH candidates.
NOTE: For the purposes of the above mentioned criteria, the average percentage score of the candidate shall not be rounded-off to the next higher integer.
Not more than one III division (or equivalent Letter Grade/Grade Point) in the academic career before graduation.
No III division (or equivalent Letter Grade/Grade Point) at the graduate and post-graduate examinations.
All other rules and regulation regarding the conduct of the entrance exam are governed by the rules framed for entrance examinations to the Doctoral Program by the University of Allahabad.
Entrance Exam
A written entrance test and an interview will be conducted for selecting scholars to the D.Phil. Program.
The Entrance Exam will consist of three parts. Part 1 will consist of multiple choice objective type test for assessing general awareness, academic aptitude and subject proficiency. Part 1 will consist of two sub-sections with the first sub-section focusing on Comprehension, General Reasoning, Numerical Ability and general aptitude. The second sub-section will focus on subject proficiency with questions from Cognitive Science (covering relevant portions from interfacing disciplines like Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Linguistics and Philosophy). Part 2 will be a subjective test for assessing subject expertise and research aptitude and will be descriptive in nature. Part 2 will consist of two sections: Section 2a will consist of medium answer questions (four out of eight) and Section 2b will consist of long answer questions (two out of four). Part 3 shall entail an Interview that will be administered by the Doctoral Program Committee of the Centre. Candidates will be selected for the Interview based on their academic career and their performance in the Entrance Exam.
Entrance Exam for M.Sc. / D.Phil. admissions will be held on June 11, 2011
Download the Application Form and send the filled form along with the draft to the Head, Centre of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences, Senate Hall Campus, University of Allahabad, Allahabad 211002.
The completed Application Form must be delivered in the CBCS Office on or before May 25, 2011.
Application Fees:
For outstation candidates (those applying from outside of Allahabad): 550 INR
For local candidates (those applying from Allahabad): 500 INR
Note : Payment is accepted only through Demand Drafts. Draft to be drawn in favor of 'CBCS' payable at Allahabad.
Interview
An Interview is conducted for applicants who qualify the written test (in the month of July). The interview is both technical and personal.
Train ticket (II sleeper non AC) by the shortest route from your residence to Allahabad, which is refundable by the Centre on production of original (used)/photocopy of the unused train/Bus tickets on the date of Interview (if he/she called for the Interview).
International Students
International Students seeking admission to the D.Phil. Program should contact the International Students Advisor of the University, who shall issue appropriate instructions to such of them who fulfill the qualifications for being considered for admission to the D.Phil. Program. The cases of International Students are subject to the provisions of the third proviso to clause 1 (a)(iii) of the University's Ordinance LVI. The process and schedule for the admission of International Students may be different from that for the candidates qualifying in the entrance examination. Prospective International Students are requested to send all the relevant information along with the application form (without the draft) to CBCS office or the Head, CBCS first before contacting the International Students Advisor of the University.
