About the Workshop

Developmental disorders in children have been a matter of concern for school professionals, medical personnel and researchers for various reasons related to their early identification, intervention, education, academic performance and integration to normal school setting, at home and with peer group. Research provides evidence on normal brain and cognitive development, plasticity effects with respect to neural connections and as they manifest in cognitive and behavioural changes, underlying neurobiological and cognitive mechanisms, etiological factors, and interventions for different developmental disorders. As professionals with concern for developmental disorders we need to integrate this knowledge with our current practice in terms of identification, assessment and intervention. At CBCS, our research has also focused on the understanding of normal cognitive development particularly the development of attentional processes as well as developmental disorders like dyslexia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

The Centre of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences, University of Allahabad, is organizing a workshop on Screening and Identification of Developmental Dsiorders for primary school teachers on March 16-17, 2010. The workshop is designed to provide information about the screening and identification of children with developmental disorders like dyslexia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, language disorders like specific language impairment, and neurological disorders like epilepsy. The specific sessions on screening and identification of children with each of the disorders will consist of hands on experience with identification tools for learning disability, ADHD, autism and Specific language impairment. Follow-up of the inputs gained during the workshop after a period of 3-4 months is also proposed.
